Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1971 1st Series)

The comic book Sabrina The Teenage Witch was published from 1971 to 1983, and ran for 77 issues.

History[]

Sabrina's debut in the October 1962 issue of Archie's Mad House was met with such positive reaction that she went on to recur in the comic. After failing to secure the rights to create an animated version of Bewitched, Filmation executives licensed the character to appear in 1969's The Archie Comedy Hour, and this addition to the Archie world was so successful that the following year she co-headlined Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies. The show was such a monstrous hit that Sabrina was finally given her own stand-alone comic title, and later the same year, all of the 1969-70 shorts were repackaged as Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The contents of the comics varied wildly from issue-to-issue, with occasional one-off strips, plus games, puzzles, and magic tricks. In addition to Sabrina and the Archie gang, there were regular single-page strips featuring Li'l Jinx and her friends (Roz, Russ, Gigi, etc.). Many issues featured a series of single-page strips, sometimes appearing under the banner "Sabrina's Silly Singles."

Sabrina: An Uncle's Monkey - Aunt Hilda complains that Harvey is a nuisance, so when Sabrina sees a chimp that Ambrose brought home, she assumes Harvey's been transformed.

3	September 1971	Sabrina: House Breakers - When a tree falls onto Harvey's car, he and Sabrina find themselves taking refuge at a haunted mansion. Sabrina: Spellbinder - Moose comes for a quick visit and turns Aunt Hilda's world upside-down. Aunt Hilda: Crazy Man, Crazy - Aunt Hilda is followed by a strange man. Sabrina: Auntie Climax - Sabrina attempts to use a love spell to make Veronica treat Archie better, but Aunt Hilda is the one who ends up with ardent admirers. Chilling Adventures in Sorcery as Told By Sabrina[]

Debuting in September 1972, Sabrina played the role of the horror hostess for two issues of an E.C.-inspired comic book. The same month, the concept spilled over into issue #8 with the story "Bride and Gloom."
